Wilderness medicine is not only fun and engaging—it’s essential training for physicians practicing in areas with abundant outdoor access like ours. Our curriculum includes monthly lectures and hands-on workshops that cover essential wilderness and austere environment care skills.
In the past, we’ve partnered with local organizations like ski patrol, and we plan to continue those collaborations each winter. We’re also working to offer Advanced Wilderness Life Support (AWLS) certification opportunities for our residents.
A major highlight of the curriculum is our annual High Country Wilderness Medicine Conference, which brings in speakers with deep expertise in wilderness medicine and practicing in remote or resource-limited settings.
This curriculum helps prepare our residents not only for the clinic and hospital—but also for the trail, the mountain, and beyond.
