Our Family Medicine Residency is based in Boone, North Carolina, nestled at 3,300 feet elevation in the scenic High Country of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Boone offers the perfect blend of rural and academic life—making it an ideal location for full-scope rural family medicine training.
Boone is:
• Small enough to allow for broad, hands-on, full-spectrum care
• Large enough to provide access to specialist support when needed
• A college town, home to Appalachian State University, bringing energy, diversity, and cultural vibrancy
Beyond medicine, Boone is known for:
• A rich music scene, featuring traditional Appalachian and bluegrass, and Boonerang Music Festival.
• Outdoor adventures year-round, including:
• Summer: hiking, rafting/kayaking/tubing, road/gravel/mountain biking, fly fishing, climbing.
• Winter: skiing and snowboarding just 15 minutes away at Appalachian Ski Mountain, or a 30 min drive to Sugar Mountain and 45 min drive to Beech Mountain.
Boone offers not just a place to train, but a community to grow in professionally and personally.
