We emphasizes hands-on procedural training in both the clinic and hospital settings, equipping residents with the skills needed for full-spectrum family medicine.

In the outpatient clinic, we offer designated procedure clinics to allow time for more complex or time-intensive procedures. Residents gain experience with:

    •    Newborn circumcision

    •    Skin and soft tissue procedures (e.g., mass removals, biopsies)

    •    Long-acting reversible contraception (e.g., Nexplanon insertion, IUD placement)

    •    Joint injections (shoulder, knee, hand, etc.), often performed with ultrasound guidance for improved accuracy and patient comfort

In the inpatient setting, residents are trained in core hospital-based procedures essential to rural and inpatient practice, including:

    •    Central line placement

    •    Thoracentesis and paracentesis

    •    Intubation

    •    Lumbar puncture

This robust procedural curriculum prepares residents to confidently manage both acute and routine procedures in a variety of practice environments.
