Point of Care Ultrasound

Point-of-care ultrasound is an essential clinical tool—especially in rural medicine, where timely diagnostics can make a critical difference. Our residency features a resident-driven POCUS curriculum designed to build confidence and competence in bedside ultrasound use across a variety of settings.

Residents gain hands-on experience using multiple ultrasound platforms, including Butterfly iQ devices for quick and portable diagnostics. The curriculum includes:

    •    Structured teaching sessions

    •    Real-time scanning in both clinic and inpatient settings

    •    Faculty mentorship and peer-led learning

By graduation, residents are equipped to use POCUS as a valuable extension of the physical exam—enhancing clinical decision-making and patient care in any practice environment.
